Matisse Designers Yellow is a bright and zesty transparent colour, ideal for subtractive mixing with other Matisse Designer pigments, Cyan and Magenta. Modelled on ‘process yellow’, a colour used widely in design and printing practices, this bold Arylide-based hue will breathe life into any painting and enhance the vibrancy of layered CMYK printing techniques.

Process yellow is often interchangeably referred to as ‘canary yellow’, for its likeness to the bright plumage of an average canary bird. It first appears on record as a colour name in 1789, though was not in wide circulation until the early 20th century, as print manufactures began to adopt the novel and little-known colour system CMYK. 

This new technique radically increased colour printing output and is still in use today across the fields of design, fine arts and commercial printing. Through a four-colour subtractive mixing model, successive pigments are layered in a “masking” effect that generates a broad array of spectacular hues.
